Planning matters
Update on Bourne End Mills Industrial Estate
Members of the Village Association planning group recently met
with a member of the Planning Department at Dacorum Borough Council to discuss
the application to develop the site for industrial use. (See earlier blog entry)
The intention of the meeting was to share our initial
responses to the proposals as submitted.
In essence we were expressing our pleasure at the intention to upgrade the
site, but with reservation regarding the details of the proposals. These centred on what we considered to be
inadequate separation of industrial buildings from the houses and maisonettes at
the end of the lane, and the potential for the creation of parking problems in
Bourne End Lane. It appears however that the plans are no more
than a resubmission of those made in 2008, the intention being to maintain the
possibility of development should the opportunity arise. Nevertheless, we felt that the meeting was
valuable for two reasons.
First, we were again reassured of the Council’s position,
not just in clarifying the opposition to a housing development but with the
consideration being given to ensuring that any development will be sympathetic
to the residents of Bourne End.
Second, we felt as a result of the meeting it would be
valuable to write to support the principle of improvement of the site for
industrial use. This would ensure that
we as a village are not simply objecting to all proposals with regard to the
site. If you wish to do likewise, please
do so. Submissions need to be made by
March.
Proposed housing
development between Hemel and Pouchen End
This proposal which is incorporated in the Council’s Core
Strategy is for 900 dwellings and ancillary development in an area of land
between Warners End, Chaulden and Pouchen End.
The details of the plan can be found at:
This is a major development and seen as providing a
substantial contribution to Dacorum’s commitment to deliver housing. The implications for the local area are far
reaching, including Warners End Chaulden in addition to Pouchen End. As yet there is no planning application and
the council envisages development from 2021.
Chicken Houses at
Upper Bourne End Lane
The proposals have been rejected. No doubt the resounding protests from so many
individuals in the village, your village association and The Chiltern Society had
an impact. It is well worth looking on
the website for the list of reasons; they are numerous!
